Madder & Moss creates sustainable accessories from reclaimed fabrics and plant-dyed silks. Each one as unique as the natural world itself.

Who we are

Madder & Moss is just me — making things slowly, thoughtfully, and with love. It’s where my love of fabric, colour, nature and sewing all come together. Everything I make is a one-off: simple shapes brought to life through reclaimed textiles, soft natural fibres, and the unexpected magic of plant-based dyeing.

Madder & Moss?

The name comes from two things I love. Madder is an ancient dye plant that produces the most beautiful range of earthy reds and pinks — it’s a reminder of the natural magic at the heart of what I do. Moss is soft, green, grounding. It’s a texture, a shape, a little world of its own — and, let’s be honest, it just sounds lovely. Together, Madder & Moss brings together colour, nature, and a sense of quiet beauty

A love of colour, texture and transformation

At the heart of Madder & Moss is a deep respect for fabric — whether it’s a forgotten piece rescued from a charity shop or a beautifully slubby length of linen. I’m drawn to materials with a story, and there’s something deeply satisfying about giving them a second life. It’s slow, considered work — part craft, part instinct — and rooted in the belief that beautiful things can be made from what already exists.

The alchemy of natural dyeing

There’s something magical about natural dyeing — a kind of quiet alchemy. You never really know what colour you’ll get, and that’s part of the joy. I work with flower bundles, leaves, and plant-based dyes to create soft, muted tones that feel like they’ve come straight from the garden. Each piece of silk I dye becomes a tiny experiment in colour and pattern, shaped by time, heat, and nature itself. The results are never perfect — and that’s exactly why I love them.

Soft shapes, perfectly imperfect

The bags and accessories I make are inspired by the things I like to carry — simple, functional pieces with soft structure and a bit of personality. Each one starts with a basic block and comes to life through small details like tucks, darts, and folds — the kind of touches that make fabric move and flow. I love how these shapes evolve in my hands, always a little different each time. The linings are hand-dyed in small batches using flowers and plants, so no two are ever the same. Madder & Moss is for those who find beauty in imperfection — who love the feel of fabric, the surprise of colour, and the quiet joy of carrying something truly one of a kind.
